Why do I have no motivation to do anything

Having a few days with no motivation to do anything is a common thing. I also had those days and I am sharing my experience in this blog.

It started when I had set big goals for myself within a short period of time. I wanted to be financially free and blogging was one of the options I wanted to try.

What Caused My Lack of Motivation to do anything?

Looking back, In the journey I had many places where I had no motivation to do anything due to

  • Was not clear with my goal and steps for reaching goal
  • Did 100 of things but no results found
  • Had burnout as I was managing to many things
  • Self doubting
  • Lack of support
  • Repetitive task with no results
  • Not seeing the expected results

As I started, I felt overwhelmed and didn’t know where to start. I started watching videos on blogging and making notes. All the youtubers said it’s easy and you can start earning money in a few months.

Setting up the website

I Started with getting a domain name and hosting on hostinger for my website. If you also want to develop a website, you can also get domain name and host from hostinger.

Before that I had to decide on which topic I would write a blog. I searched on google

“on which topic should I write a blog?”,
“Best blog niches for beginners”,
“Trending blog topics in 2024”

I got hundreds of results and suggested writing on food, travel, technology, health, work, jobs etc. But I got confused. I used to search things using different search query on google for the next 7 to 10 days getting the same results and felt like I was going nowhere. I was stuck at a point and used to think about what I should do.

I was losing hope of finding a topic to write blogs about but suddenly while developing a python project, I thought “why don’t I write blogs in Python code”.
Learning How to Write Technical Blogs

Once the topic was decided, I had to understand how to write technical blogs. I took courses, watched tutorials and studied blogs written by experienced developers.

It looked easy – “just explain the code”

But when I sat down for writing a blog , nothing made sense. I would write a paragraph, delete it, rewrite it, delete it again. Did it 100 times and was losing interest in it.

My explanation felt confusing and I wasn’t able to break the concepts into simple steps. Worst part , I started comparing myself to others. Their blogs were polished and clear. Mine felt messy and incomplete

My motivation dropped even further.

The Moment Things Started Changing

After weeks of frustration, my perspective changes and I realized something important:

I was trying too hard to be perfect.

I wanted my first blog post to be flawless. I wanted it to look professional and valuable. But this mindset was stopping me from making progress.

So I changed my approach. Instead of trying to write perfect blogs, I focused on writing helpful ones.

I asked myself: “What would I have loved to read when I started learning Python?” This simple question changed everything.

I started writing small tutorial with simple code explanations and beginner friendly guides. Stopped worrying about perfection and focused on writing small sentences with clarity. I reminded myself that even basic knowledge can be incredibly helpful to someone who is just starting out.

To stay consistent had set goals,

  • Write 300 works every day
  • Two blog post per week One
  • new concept at a time One
  • improvement per article

How I got my motivation back

Used a goal tracking book which would tell me how much progress I made.

The best thing I did after a while was breaking the work into smaller steps which made me feel less overwhelmed and helped me build my motivation again.

Things will change with time and small improvement make big changes which I learned from atomic habits book written by James Clear

Rebuilding Motivation [One Small Win at a Time]

Motivation is a thing which doesn’t come back immediately. It returns slowly through small wins.

Every time I finished a draft, I felt a small sense of accomplishment.
Every time someone read my article, I felt encouraged.
Every time an article ranked slightly better on Google, I felt hopeful.

Things changed with me taking small steps which gave me strength to keep going. I realized that waiting for motivation is pointless. I have to create my motivation by taking action, even small ones.

And I know there will be a day where I will lose motivation again which is normal. I know that feeling of getting stuck which doesn’t mean I’m failing. It simply means I need clarity, rest, or a fresh approach.

I have written more than 100 python tech blogs in the previous year (2024) with traffic over 1500 visitors per month.

Seeing these results, I have started my second blogging website (mydailythings.in). In this website I will be writing about lifestyle.

Final Thoughts: You’re Not Alone

If you feel unmotivated right now. I want you to know this: You’re not alone. Your feelings are valid. And motivation is something you can rebuild. My journey showed me that motivation fades when we:
  • Feel overwhelmed
  • Lack clarity
  • Expect quick results
  • Compare ourselves with others
  • Forget to appreciate small progress
And it returns when we:
  • Break goals into smaller steps
  • Focus on progress instead of perfection
  • Choose something we genuinely enjoy
  • Give ourselves time to grow
If you are struggling with motivation, take a step back, breathe, and remind yourself that every journey has its slow phases. What matters most is that you keep moving forward and take one small step at a time.
