How a student is able to manage Time, Mindset, Focus, Consistency, Goal setting and Self-discipline creates the difference between a topper and an average student. I have gone through five research papers to understand how an average student can become a topper.
Realistic Goals and Monitor Progress
Writing down a detailed goal with action is solving 30 % of the problem as you have a plan which you can follow. You have increased your success rate by 42%. You can use a daily planner to set daily goals.
The students so actively are setting goals and assessing their learning strategies tend to perform better than those who do not do it. My first tip that I want to give you is, break a larger goal like scoring 90% in Maths to smaller achievable milestones. This helps you build confidence and motivates you to do it more.
My second tip would be to adapt to change. There will be days where you won’t be able to achieve what you wanted. Please don’t get demotivated. We all have low performance days. Adapt and set smaller goals which you can do in an hour or so.
Have a Fixed Study Desk and fixed time to study
Use Pomodoro Technique for studying
The Pomodoro Technique is simple, identify a task you want to complete. Set a timer of 25 minutes and after 25 minutes take 5 minutes break. Repeat the process further to complete the task. You can use a pomodoro timer with an alarm on your study desk.
Use social media to learn.
I have used instagram for learning maths. I had a habit of scrolling instagram which I used for learning maths visually. You can also follow channels like https://www.instagram.com/maths.visualization/ so learn math visually and for python coding follow https://pythoncodelab.com/. Now you have optimised your social media time for learning maths and coding. It’s a small change but the impact would be big.
Time Management
Having a timeline for completing allotted tasks and following it strictly avoids last minute cramming. I always prioritize difficult subjects and topics early when our mind is fresh and have a proper 5 to 10 minutes break where I would play a game to reward myself. Always have a monthly calendar with reminders.
Positive and Successful mindset
Results take time and setbacks are part of life but you should have a positive attitude. The mindset of successful people carries traits. They finish what was started by them, adapting to the environment with continuous, consistent improvement, developing positive inner beliefs and finally they accept themself. Try to develop these over the time with small incremental changes.
Understand Concepts Instead of Memorization
Seek Help from friends and get feedback of concept understanding
Having an interactive learning environment is a must. Explain the concept to your friend and get feedback on the explanation. By explaining a topic to your friend you understand the weak points of your concepts. Try to be with a group of toppers and spend time learning how they do work.
Leverage Technology and Resources
Maintain a Healthy Routine
